Sacraments

Baptism
1. Baptism for adults:
Adults who would like to be baptized in St. Joseph's Basilica are invited to participate in RCIA. For more information please call Sue Barylo at 988 - 9607.

2. Baptism of school age children:
Children, six years old or older, are invited to join CIC in preparation for the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, Reconciliation and Eucharist. Parents or guardians should contact one of the priests in our parish at 488 - 7295.

3. Baptism for infants and small children under six years of age:
In the Basilica we celebrate the sacrament of Baptism once a month on a Sunday at 2:00 pm. The celebration is outside of a Mass. During Lent we don't have any Baptism celebrations. Parents or guardians should contact our Parish Office at 488 - 7295, at least, one month before the planned Baptism. Both parents must agree to have their child baptized and, at least, one of the parents must be a Catholic. Parents who are not registered members of St. Joseph's Basilica Parish will need to obtain written permission for a Baptism in our church from their pastor.

Usually about two weeks before the day of baptism, we have a Baptismal Preparation Course in our Parish Hall. Parents or guardians who are having their first or second child baptized, are obligated to attend the Baptismal Preparation Course. In special cases, it may be possible to have a baptism outside of our monthly schedule, but please discuss this with one of our priests at 488-7295.

Confirmation
We celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation once a year on the feast of Pentecost. Patrick Tinkham accepts registrations from parents or guardians in September. Usually we prepare children in grade seven. Every candidate must participate in the preparation classes according to the schedule prepared by Patrick Tinkham.

Students of high school age and adults who would like to be accepted for the Sacrament of Confirmation are invited to the RCIA journey. For more information please call Sue Barylo at 988-9607.

First Confession
We help families to prepare their children for first Confession. Usually we accept children in grade two. Each candidate must be baptized. Parents or guardians should register their children in September with Patrick Tinkham at our Parish Office at 488 - 7295.

Children celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time in April on the days indicated by Patrick Tinkham.

Students of high school age or adults who would like to be prepared for their first Reconciliation, please call one of our priests at 488 - 7295.

First Communion
We help families to prepare their children for first Communion. Usually we accept children in grade two. Each candidate must be baptized and be prepared for their first Confession. Parents or guardians should register their children in September with Patrick Tinkham at our Parish Office at 488 - 7295.

We celebrate First Communion with the children in May on Sundays chosen by the parents and Patrick Tinkham.

Marriage
The law requires that a couple will register for the Sacrament of Marriage six months before the day of marriage. Every year in St. Joseph's Basilica we have many registered marriages, therefore it would be wise to contact one of our priests at 488 - 7295, at least, one year before planning the marriage. Once the paper work with the priest has commenced, other plans and reservations may be made. We don't have any facilities for a wedding reception in the Basilica.

We celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage on Saturday at 9:00 am, 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 3:00 pm and 6:30 pm.

Both candidates must be free to marry, that is, neither have been married before. Widows, widowers and those who have obtained an annulment of their previous marriage are free to marry.

At least, one of the candidates must be a Catholic in order to be married in the Catholic Church.

Both candidates must be adults, at least, 18 years of age.

If none of the candidates are registered members of St. Joseph's Basilica, the Catholic candidate must obtain written permission from the pastor of her/his parish to be married in the Basilica. They should register with one of our priests, pay the registration fee and ask their Catholic pastor to prepare the documents for their upcoming marriage. Our registered parishioners will have their documents prepared with one of our priests. Those who were married outside the Church by a Justice of the Peace or not in a Catholic Church and wish to have their marriage validated, please contact one of our priests at 488 - 7295. If the couple requests, we celebrate a private validation, free of any cost.

In case of any doubt, please contact one of our priests at 488-7295.

Anointing of the Sick
Our seriously sick parishioners may request the Sacrament of the Sick. Please contact one of our priest at 488-7295 to set a time for the anointing. In case of emergency, please call 984-9768.
